P064 Process O May Contribute to the 90 min NREM/REM Sleep Cycles

چکیده
Abstract The mechanism responsible for the ubiquitous NREM/REM sleep cycles of approximately 90-min period length in humans remains largely unknown. It was originally said to be a product 90-minute Basic-Rest-Activity-Cycle (BRAC) assumed pervade throughout and wakefulness. However, evidence existence BRAC during wakefulness is weak questionable. important consider other possible contributors this fundamental cycle process. Process O (state onset, offset) has been suggested account empirical data inexplicable by Processes S C. question significant increase alertness following brief nap (<10min sleep) longer than predicted episodes (40-90 min) awakening towards end normal period. proposed operate similarly but with build-up inhibition an ongoing state (wake or NREM REM that rapid self-limiting after 1-2 hours. also (~10min) dissipation previous offset such resuming (onset) rejuvenates functions (wakefulness, NREM, sleep). In operation accumulates over first 80-100 minutes enough flip ‘sleep switch’ another (REM Only (5-10min) needed dissipate still stronger REM, can resume cycle.

Decreased serum level of lipoxin A4 (LXA4) may contribute to the pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis
Background: Rhinitis is a prevalent chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa. Arachidonic acid-derived lipoxin A4 (LXA4) has long been recognized to exert crucial anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving effects on inflammatory responses through a specific receptor named formyl peptide receptor-2 (FPR2). This study aimed to determine the serum level of LXA4 as well as the relative mRNA expre...
متن کاملDiminished capability to recognize the optimal temperature for sleep initiation may contribute to poor sleep in elderly people.
STUDY OBJECTIVES Sleep propensity and skin temperature are functionally related. In young adults, changes of skin temperature within the comfortable thermoneutral zone affect sleep-onset latency and vigilance performance. Aging is associated with both decreased thermosensitivity and poorer sleep. Our goal was to test whether subtle manipulations of core body and skin temperature affect sleep on...
متن کاملDecreased oxidative stress may contribute to the disease process in placenta accreta
Background/aim: The main aim of this study was to investigate serum total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), oxidative stress index (OSI), and arylesterase levels in pregnant women with placenta accreta and to compare those with age-matched healthy pregnant women. Materials and methods: A total of 27 pregnant women who had clinically and pathologically proven placenta accreta...
متن کاملIncreased internalization of complement inhibitor CD59 may contribute to endothelial inflammation in obstructive sleep apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), characterized by intermittent hypoxia (IH) during transient cessation of breathing, triples the risk for cardiovascular diseases. We used a phage display peptide library as an unbiased approach to investigate whether IH, which is specific to OSA, activates endothelial cells (ECs) in a distinctive manner. The target of a differentially bound peptide on ECs collecte...
